Yesterday marked the 10th anniversay of Firefly’s first day of shooting. To celebrate here’s video of a recent Firefly panel from Dallas’ Sci Fi Expo with Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass, Sean Maher and Jewel Staite. What comes across most is how much of a family the cast were and still are.

Enjoy!

In June last year there was a Kickstarter campaign for a short Firefly fan film called Cache. Based on a short story by Cliff Ackman and set before the War of Independence, it explores a possible scenario for Mal and Zoe’s first meeting.

I’m not big on fan films but I found David Grimes’ performance as Mal utterly compelling and true to the original character. For that alone it is worth watching.

It’s taken us a little while to cross all our t’s and dot our i’s but we are proud to announce the Melbourne 2011 Can’t Stop The Serenity season raised US$4147.60 for Equality Now!

We couldn’t have done any of it without your generosity, so to everyone who came out to events and supported us, from the bottom of our hearts we say THANK YOU!

If you were wondering exactly how your donations help, Equality Now’s Global Director Yasmeen Hassan has a special message for Browncoats about how you have changed lives for the better:

The 2012 CSTS crew are already hard at work on this year’s events, so look out for some exciting announcements soon!

If you have any ideas or suggestions or would like to help out just drop the crew an email csts@newmelbournebrowncoats.com

We’re looking forward to an even bigger and better Can’t Stop the Serenity 2012 because together we are mighty!

2012 is going to be a big year for Browncoats! It marks 10 years since Firefly first aired and Equality Now’s 20th anniversary. It will also be the 7th consecutive year Melbourne has participated in Can’t Stop the Serenity.

We want to celebrate all these amazing milestones with a spectacular shindig!

To make this happen we need your help, there’s so much to do we’re starting to plan now with a meeting on Sunday 20th November at 1pm. If you’d like to come along just reply to this forum post or drop us an email csts@newmelbournebrowncoats.com and we’ll give you all the details.

Come help us make Can’t Stop the Serenity our best and biggest yet!

And if you’re not quite sure we’ll let Joss Whedon inspire you to action:

As we draw to the end of Can’t Stop the Serenity for 2011, they’re going out with a big bang!

CSTS are auctioning some must have shinies and just about every fan base will find something for them!

For Browncoats there’s signed items, gorgeous posters, patches and buttons, an amazing quilt, a replica model Mule, an authentic Serenity prop, a stunning one off engraved metal etching and more!

For Buffy fans there’s 2 of Jo Chen’s Willow prints, Evil Willow and Willow/Serpent Lady, each signed by the artist, Joss Whedon and Alison Hannigan.

Fans of The Guild won’t want to miss out on the Date My Avatar signed by the whole cast.

Supernatural fans wont be disappointed with 3 different t-shirt and mug packs, pack 1, pack 2 and pack 3.

And there’s something for Xena, Chuck, Star Wars, SG:U, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Smallville, Twilight, Twilight Eclipse, and arcade gaming fans!

All proceeds go to Equality Now so not only do you get something very shiny but you help end discrimination and violence against girls and women around the world. So bid high and bid often!

And with only 54 days til Christmas they make great gifts.

Entries for the annual CSTS art contest are in. There are some great designs this year that make deciding which one to choose really tough!

The design with the highest number of votes will be the Can’t Stop the Serenity logo for the next 12 months. So if you love it, vote for it!

With just over 4 days left before voting closes, check out the candidates and make your vote count here.

That’s right, we’ll be at the big geek-fest that is Armageddon this weekend!

For Whedonites the highlight will be main stage appearances on Saturday at noon by Mark Sheppard, Firefly’s Badger, and Nicholas Brendon from Buffy on Sunday at 11am.

We’re also excited that Vork (Jeff Lewis) and Zaboo (Sandeep Parikh) from The Guild will be attending. You can catch them on stage 2 Sunday at 2pm.

So while you’re schmoozing with the stars of the sci-fi world, admiring the cos play costumes and attending panels, drop by to say hi and pick up some shinies. We’re at booth AA28, near Pop Cultcha and Global Gear, right next to AusTrek. We’ll have a vast array of ‘Verse goodness for you and all proceeds go to charity.

Don’t forget to download the guidebook app for maps and scheduling info.

See you there!

With another Can’t Stop the Serenity season coming to a close, there’s still something you can do to help raise money for Equality Now that won’t cost you anything.

The generous Jen has pledged to donate 5 cents for every @csts Twitter follower and every CSTS Facebook like on 30th September. The current pledge is $210.85

With less than a week to go we want to raise as much money as possible. So if you haven’t already followed or liked CSTS please do. And get everyone you know to as well!

We all enjoy Can’t Stop the Serenity events right?

Have you considered giving a helping hand to help keep CSTS going?

CSTS Global is putting together the 2012 team and looking for committed volunteers to fill a variety of roles. Don’t stress if you’ve not done something like this before, there’s plenty of help to get you started. Applications close tomorrow and details for all positions can be found here.

Help us make CSTS flourish so we can spread the signal about Equality Now!
