Can’t Stop the Serenity 2009

Thanks for being part of the global phenomenon that is Can’t Stop the Serenity. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the works of Joss Whedon and raise money for a vital cause – Equality Now!

Thanks to everyone who made our event a success! We raised $2,259.98 (USD 1,950.00) for Equality Now!! Our donation has been confirmed by Equality Now and the CSTS Global Team, and added to the Global Donation Tally.

Date: Sunday, 30 August 2009
Location: VCA Federation Hall, 234 St Kilda Road, Southbank (Directions & Map)
Time: 12-4:30pm (Doors open at 11:30am)
Tickets: $15 advance online via GreenTix (plus booking fees) or $20 at the door (cash only).

The event included screenings of Serenity and Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog, as well as some very shiny extra special stuff not ever seen before in Melbourne!

PRIZES
There were lots of prizes to be won in our Live Auction, Raffle and Costume Competition! Prizes include items signed by Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, Jewel Staite, Ron Glass, Jonathan Woodward, Nectar Rose, Michael Fairman, Sonny Rhodes, Geoff Mandel, Dichen Lachman and more! Raffles and Live Auctions were cash only. This year we have some very exciting prizes!

Live Auction
There will be five incredible items up for grabs in this year’s Live Auction. Winning bidders must pay in cash at the conclusion of the auctions.

  • Auction #1 – Firefly The Official Companion (vol.1) signed by Joss Whedon and Tim Minear, writers and directors of Firefly
  • Auction #2 – Framed replica Alliance currency (100 Credits) signed by Ron Glass (Shepherd Book), Jonathan Woodward (Tracey), Michael Fairman (Niska), Nectar Rose (Lovebot) and Sonny Rhodes (singer of Firefly theme song), plus a Serenity Exclusive Fan Club Edition Money Pack (containing 10,000 Credits in replica Alliance currency)
  • Auction #3 – Framed replica Alliance currency (100 Credits) signed by Jewel Staite (Kaylee), plus a Limited Edition Kaylee Maquette, plus a hand-made replica of one of Kaylee’s necklaces from Firefly
  • Auction #4 – Supersized Serenity poster (UK version) signed by Nathan Fillion
  • Auction #5 – Small Serenity poster (US version) signed by Joss Whedon

Raffle
Entrants into our raffle to won a whole host of prizes! Goodies included autographed items, DVDs, CDs, comics, jewellery, apparel and more! Tickets were just $2 each and all proceeds go directly to Equality Now.

Costume Competition
Heaps of folks came along in costume and won some great prizes! They dressed up as characters or created their own Whedonverse inspired character, taking inspiration from Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Buffy, Angel… even Toy Story! Prizes were awarded for:

  1. Best Character Likeness – Firefly trading card signed by Ron GlassJonathan Woodward & Dr Horrible T-shirt

Every attendee received an entry form to have a chance to win one of seven amazing global prizes. One entry was drawn per prize to be passed on to the Global Team to enter into the main prize draw.

  • A custom made Serenity glass plate signed by Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Summer Glau and Adam Baldwin, donated by Tami Lankford
  • A pair of Gold Weekend Packages to Creation Entertainment’s 3rd Annual Firefly & Serenity convention this November in Los Angeles, CA, donated by Creation Entertainment
  • A voice acting role for ‘Firefly Between The Lines’, donated by Between the Lines Studios
  • A Dollhouse poster signed by Joss Whedon, donated by Buffyfest
  • Two part prize donated by The Kids Need to Read Foundation (KNTR) (and an amazing anonymous angel)
