Sharmill Films will release their latest acquisition, Joss Whedon’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING on July 11 in limited national release across Australia.

Joss Whedon’s fresh take on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing has received wide critical acclaim, praised for its humour and “inspired” interpretation of the Bard’s comedic play (Variety). Empire magazine described Whedon and Shakespeare as “a perfect match”.

Joss Whedon’s (The Avengers, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, Cabin in the Woods, Toy Story) modern re-telling of Much Ado About Nothing stars Whedon film and television regulars Amy Acker (‘Angel’, ‘Dollhouse’), Alexis Denisof (‘Buffy’, ‘Angel’, ‘Dollhouse’), Clark Gregg (The Avengers), Fran Kranz (Cabin in the Woods, ‘Dollhouse’) and Nathan Fillion (‘Buffy’, ‘Firefly’, Serenity).

Using the original text, adapted by Joss Whedon, the story of sparring lovers Beatrice (Acker) and Benedick (Denisof) offers a dark, sexy, funny and occasionally absurd view of the intricate game that is love.

Much Ado About Nothing was shot in and around Joss Whedon’s own home in Santa Monica, California, while he was still working on the blockbuster superhero film The Avengers. Co-produced by Whedon’s wife Kai Cole, the film was made with close friends and a sincere love for the classic text.

Helen has won the DVD set of the complete series of Firefly, a copy of Done the Impossible, an Adam Baldwin picture, a replica 10 credit note, a hard-to-find keyring from the US promotion of Serenity, a set of Stewart McKenny gift cards, an Alliance Criminal Database booklet and a collection of verse inspired stickers and badges.

This was our first Melbourne convention for 2013, and this time around NMB Outfitters was staffed by Jen, Leanne, Michael, Mick, Chris, Alex, Ali and Breanna. When the doors opened on Saturday morning, it was fantastic to see a wave of Jayne’s, Mal’s, Dr Horrible’s and more stream past! We saw lots of fantastic cosplaying (with a lot of Firefly and Whedonverse costumes on show), and were delighted to have so many Browncoats and Whedonverse fans stopping by. It was so great to see how many people remembered us from last year, and are excited about this year’s Can’t Stop the Serenity event. Our crew were also very excited to meet the guests, including the one-and-only Adam Baldwin who stopped by for a visit and gave us his stamp of approval! We also met some fantastic local artists, who have kindly donated some very shiny pieces for our Can’t Stop the Serenity” events. It was a really fun (if very exhausting) weekend!
