This weekend, you’ll find our Browncoat Booth at Supanova in the Melbourne Showgrounds Grand Pavilion (a change from past years where we’ve been in the Exhibitor’s Hall). We will have lots of shiny things for sale, and proceeds benefit two wonderful charities, Fitted for Work and FareShare. You’ll find us right by the Photo Studio and celebrity guests!
Welcome to 2017! There have been some changes afoot behind the scenes and we’re pleased to welcome our new President, Chris MacLennan. For those you who attended our AGM, you will know that we have had a few changes within our Committee of Management. Jen Cummings has moved from President to Treasurer, Michael Mihalic has moved from Treasurer to being an Ordinary Member, and Chris has stepped up from Vice-President to President.
“Over the years since my involvement began in 2010, I’ve met and worked with many of you at our Can’t Stop the Serenity events or while working behind our Browncoat Booth at one of the many Conventions that we attend. In the past I’ve had more of a background role as Vice-President but as Jen has moved to a different role in the organisation I have stepped up to take her place.
My intention as President is to keep the organisation running in a smooth manner behind the scenes, keep the New Melbourne Browncoats doing the great work we’ve being doing for our charities, and most importantly to me, make sure that all of us Browncoats across Victoria and Australia have a place where we can meet up with like minded people.
What drives me on with this work is that we have some of the best fans, some of the friendliest enthusiastic people, from such a wide cross section of society and world views. And together we do really good work. We might not be the biggest Fandom, but I think we’re the mightiest. So, if you haven’t met me before, and you see us somewhere, say hello.”
The new Committee of Management for 2016/2017:
- President: Chris MacLennan
- Vice President: Vacant
- Treasurer: Jen Cummings
- Secretary: Melissa Dwyer
- Ordinary Members: Laura Shearman & Michael Mihalic
- Webmaster: Michael Girdwood (Non-Committee)
It’s that time of the year again. Time sure has flown… much faster than a 03-K64-Firefly. No, we’re not talking about that jolly guy in the red suit, it’s our AGM!
When: Wednesday, December 14 from 7.30-8.30pm
Where: Beer DeLuxe Fed-Square
Why not take a break from the hustle and bustle and join us for our meeting which will take place in Beer DeLuxe Fed-Square. The meeting will start promptly at 7.30pm, then please stick around afterwards and have a meal with the hard working men and women from the New Melbourne Browncoats team.
We’re organised entirely by volunteers and we’re looking for like minded supporters to join us in achieving our goals. We’re always seeking volunteers in the following areas:
– Social event organisers and crew
– Fundraising event organisers and crew
– Convention booth crew
– Social Media crew
– Committee members
And we’re open to new ideas too!
In accordance with our Articles of Incorporation, all Committee positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and General Committee Member) are up for re-election at our AGM.
Nomination and Proxy Assignment forms can be found here (under Official Documents). To submit a nomination or appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, please complete the form and either email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by 7:30pm on Tuesday 13 December, or bring the completed form along to the AGM.
Everyone is invited to attend, but only current members are entitled to nominate and vote.
The AGM will consist of presentation of previous AGM minutes (and acceptance), presentation of the financial statement for Financial Year 2015/2016 (and acceptance), and elections.
Please RSVP to email@example.com by Monday 12 December so that we can book a large enough table.
We’re busy crunching the numbers to determine our donation total, but in the meantime we have the results of the lucky CSTS Absentee Supporter Pass prize draw!
Congratulations to P. Bosanquet on winning a Li-Shen’s Bazaar Blue Sun Travel Poster signed by Sean Maher!
