With the new site, of course, comes new RSS feeds.

Wait, what’s an RSS feed?  Oh, ok, I guess there’s some who… you know what?  There’s a great explanation at ProBlogger, if you want to know.

I’ll give you a minute to read. Come back when you’re ready.

Got all that? Excellent.

Now that you know what a feed is, and how to read it, you need to know the addresses of the feeds.  Ready? Good.

Of course, all our news and blog posts also repost to Twitter and Facebook, so there are so many ways to keep up with whats going on Browncoats-wise in Melbourne, as well as around the world!

First off, a wonderful thank you to everyone who attended our recent Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog Sing-along event at the Oxford Scholar.

We are extremely sad that the Evil League of Evil managed to prevent us from showing Commentary! The Musical, and we’re very thankful that everyone was so understanding. Blast the E.L.E!! *shakes fist*

But we have good news! We’ve received word that Captain Hammer will be using his influence to make sure things go to plan for our final CSTS event on 2 October. His minions have convinced our wonderful venue to waive their usual hire charge, so every single cent raised at our next event will go to charity! All hail Captain Hammer!! Plus, folks who show their tickets from our E.L.E. disrupted Dr Horrible event will receive a $5 discount on admission to our last CSTS event for 2010.

Since we didn’t get to share Commentary! The Musical with you all, we’ll be shaking up the plan for our “CSTS Meets The Guild” event. Instead of screening The Guild Season 1 and 2, we’ll be starting off with Commentary! The Musical. This leads perfectly into our screening of The Guild Season 1 (trust me, it’s the perfect seque).

Tickets to CSTS Meets The Guild are just $10 (or $5 on presentation of your ticket to the Dr Horrible event on September 18). They will be available at the Oxford Scholar Hotel from 2pm on 2 October (cash only).

See you there!!

Did you know that Joss Whedon will be in Melbourne soon? He’s appearing as the keynote speaker at the Melbourne Writers Festival on 27 August… the day before our CSTS event!

So here’s the thing. We would love to have Joss to come to our shindig. And we know that you want Joss to come and join us.

We’ve sent him an invitation, but in case he doesn’t know just how much you all want him to come, it’s time for you to let him know.

Add your voice in the comments and tell Joss how much you want him to come to CSTS Melbourne 2010. If you have a direct line to Joss, please tell him how much we want him to come. If you don’t, then jump on Twitter, Facebook etc and spread the word to those who can pass on the invitation.

We’ve even made Joss a special Big Damn Ticket so he can get in on the day.

The next stage of our shiny new website is open for business! Our forum is a place to discuss all things Whedon…  and many things not.

Jump on in, get registered, pull up a crate and settle in for some friendly fireside chatterings.

We’re still playing with settings and content over there, so don’t be surprised if stuff moves around a bit, but it will be finalised soon.

The URL for the forum is http://melbournebrowncoats.com/forum, and you’ll find the links up the top, and over to the right as well.

Enjoy!

The launch of our Season of Serenity took place on July 14th at Loop in Melbourne. We had a pretty good turnout with about 20 people there to watch Done The Impossible on a big screen.

We held an auction, with a signed photo of Alan Tudyk going home with a happy winner, and a raffle with prizes of Finding Serenity, Serenity Found, a handmade Jayne hat, the Jayne “Troublemaker” T-shirt, an Alliance money pack, and a “Curse Your Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal” T-shirt.

By all accounts it was a great night, and promises to be even better for the Cosplay Event on August 4th, where there will be more auctions, raffles, prizes and merch on sale, along with discounted tickets to our Main Event on August 28th.

I should also point out, the merchandise and prizes on offer at these smaller events are just a sample of what we have for you. We have lots of the QMx T-shirts available, as well as some unique designs from a very talented artist. And trust me, there will be some very nice items up for auction at Can’t Stop The Serenity 2010.

This could be your last chance to own your very own Browncoat, just like Malcolm Reynolds.

Aussies have a rare opportunity to own one of these gorgeous coats from Abbyshot. The rugged coat is constructed entirely from high-caliber, genuine cow suede with pebbled leather cuffs. A western style duster completed with gun flaps and custom-designed brass buckles. Available in S, M, L, XL and XXL for just $400 plus shipping.

If you are interested in ordering one, please drop us a wave to melbbrowncoats@gmail.com.

This opportunity is available until 31 August 2010, so don’t miss out!
