We Want You!

We’re counting down to our big Can’t Stop the Serenity shindig on 27th August but we need your help. We’re putting together a street team to help spread the signal wider than ever before, so if you’d like to help us promote CSTS, come to the meeting:

When: 7.30pm Wednesday 13th July
Where: Melbourne Lion Hotel (at Melbourne Central)

We have some ideas for online and in store promotion but would love to brainstorm new and creative ways to get the word out.

You all know how awesome watching Serenity with Browncoats are so help us sell out and make this our biggest year yet!

And if you’d like to help out in any other capacity, we’d love your help too, so join us on Wednesday!

Don’t forget about our Christmas Shindig is tomorrow. We’ll be gathering at the Melbourne Observatory, and in case of inclement weather, we’ll be taking refuge in the Observatory Cafe.

Should you wish to stock up on some Christmas presents, we’ll have a small supply of the following goodies on hand:

  • Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog DVD – $25 each
  • The Guild (Season 1 & Season 2) – $25 per season
  • Finding Serenity and Serenity Found – $20 each
  • Firefly keychains – $15 each

You’re invited to join your fellow Browncoats, Whedonites and assorted geeks to celebrate the end of another year on Saturday 4 December.

We’ll be meeting at 12pm in the courtyard of the Melbourne Observatory, near the cafe at the Royal Botanical Gardens (Google Map)

Bring a picnic lunch or grab a bite from the cafe!

It’s super short notice, but we hope you’ll be able to make it!

With just under a month until Christmas, there’s just enough time to get crafty with these great gift ideas!
Serenity iPod Case
Can you believe that’s made out of polymer clay? Wow!

It was created by craftster Kimmermonroe.

“It’s meant to look like it came off the ship. The outside is made from polymer clay that I dinged up and burned. Yes I took a lighter and burned it. The ipod holder is made of brown leather. It represents the “Brown Coats”. Yeah I lost my mind a little on this project.”

More photos of the project can be found here.

Quotable Wash Embroidery
You can never have enough dinosaurs, especially when they’re done so well!

This cute-as-a-button embroidery is courtesy of Tilt Creations and was inspired by Wash and his dinosaurs. You can find more Firefly themed goodies from Tilt Creations here. Among the many gorgeous items are a messenger bag with an embroidered Firefly logo, felty “two by two, men in blue” gloves, embroidered Fruity Oaty Bar girls and lots more!

Firefly Amigurumi Dolls
Can you believe these are crocheted?

Courtesy of Geek Central Station, the whole crew of Serenity have been miniturized and made extra adorable! Check out the link for lots of detailed photos, and prepare to drool. Particular highlights are Kaylee & Simon, Zoe & Wash, Mal & Inara, and of course Jayne (complete with guns and grenades!).

How about crafty-goodness from around the rest of the Whedonverse?

We’re in the home straight of this year’s Can’t Stop the Serenity, and we’re super excited to announce that we’ve raised $7,500 for Equality Now.

Wait… what was that? How much??

SEVEN THOUSAND AND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!

We’re got some cashy money to be finalised from the Dr Horrible event, and we’ve still got one more event to go, so we’re not finished yet! So bring your friends to our final event and let’s see if we can hit the 8k mark!

This is an incredible achievement, and we’re so glad to have your support this year. We couldn’t do it without you!!! THANK YOU!!!

It’s time to have a horrible day, all thanks to Dr Horrible himself!

TODAY – Saturday 18 September 2010 –
2:30-4:30pm (doors open at 2:00pm)
Oxford Scholar Hotel
427 Swanston Street, Melbourne (opposite RMIT)
This is an all ages event

Tickets are just $10, available at the door (cash only).

Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day, Dr Horrible tells the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.

We will also be screening Commentary! The Musical!, a full-length commentary track that is a completely original musical in its own right. Redefining post-modernism, Commentary! is a fun, behind-the-scenes glimpse of the production, heavily laced with inside jokes set to music very nearly as good as that in the actual production. It’s not to be missed!
