It’s taken us a little while to cross all our t’s and dot our i’s but we are proud to announce the Melbourne 2011 Can’t Stop The Serenity season raised US$4147.60 for Equality Now!

We couldn’t have done any of it without your generosity, so to everyone who came out to events and supported us, from the bottom of our hearts we say THANK YOU!

If you were wondering exactly how your donations help, Equality Now’s Global Director Yasmeen Hassan has a special message for Browncoats about how you have changed lives for the better:

The 2012 CSTS crew are already hard at work on this year’s events, so look out for some exciting announcements soon!

Oh noes! Dr Horrible strikes again! :(

First off, a wonderful thank you to everyone who attended our recent Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog Sing-along event at the Oxford Scholar.

We are extremely sad that the Evil League of Evil managed to prevent us from showing Commentary! The Musical, and we’re very thankful that everyone was so understanding. Blast the E.L.E!! *shakes fist*

But we have good news! We’ve received word that Captain Hammer will be using his influence to make sure things go to plan for our final CSTS event on 2 October. His minions have convinced our wonderful venue to waive their usual hire charge, so every single cent raised at our next event will go to charity! All hail Captain Hammer!! Plus, folks who show their tickets from our E.L.E. disrupted Dr Horrible event will receive a $5 discount on admission to our last CSTS event for 2010.

Since we didn’t get to share Commentary! The Musical with you all, we’ll be shaking up the plan for our “CSTS Meets The Guild” event. Instead of screening The Guild Season 1 and 2, we’ll be starting off with Commentary! The Musical. This leads perfectly into our screening of The Guild Season 1 (trust me, it’s the perfect seque).

Tickets to CSTS Meets The Guild are just $10 (or $5 on presentation of your ticket to the Dr Horrible event on September 18). They will be available at the Oxford Scholar Hotel from 2pm on 2 October (cash only).

Join us as we celebrate Joss Whedon’s Emmy Award Winning internet sensation, Dr Horrible’s Sing-along Blog!

Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day, Dr Horrible tells the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.

We will also be screening Commentary! The Musical!, a full-length commentary track that is a completely original musical in its own right. Redefining post-modernism, Commentary! is a fun, behind-the-scenes glimpse of the production, heavily laced with inside jokes set to music very nearly as good as that in the actual production. It’s not to be missed!

SERENITY POSTER SIGNED BY JOSS WHEDON

This poster was signed by Joss Whedon on the set of Cabin in the Woods in Vancouver in 2009. It measures 11″x17″ (29cm x 43cm) and is signed in silver ink. The poster was obtained directly from Universal Studios in 2005 during a pre-release event in Los Angeles.

We’re celebrating the five years of Can’t Stop the Serenity, and our wonderful 2010 CSTS Global Team and Global Auction Sponsors, in conjunction with the California Browncoats, are proud to give you the chance to win some fantastic prizes in the CSTS Global online auction for Equality Now.

Money raised from the auction will be included in the CSTS 2010 Global Donation Total. Your bids will help us to reach this year’s goal of US $150,000 raised for charity!

A Big Damn CSTS Ticket for Joss Whedon

Did you know that Joss Whedon will be in Melbourne soon? He’s appearing as the keynote speaker at the Melbourne Writers Festival on 27 August… the day before our CSTS event!

So here’s the thing. We would love to have Joss to come to our shindig. And we know that you want Joss to come and join us.

We’ve sent him an invitation, but in case he doesn’t know just how much you all want him to come, it’s time for you to let him know.

Add your voice in the comments and tell Joss how much you want him to come to CSTS Melbourne 2010. If you have a direct line to Joss, please tell him how much we want him to come. If you don’t, then jump on Twitter, Facebook etc and spread the word to those who can pass on the invitation.

We’ve even made Joss a special Big Damn Ticket so he can get in on the day.
